The Power of the Tongue

Apr 15, 2019 | Blog

The tongue is an important part of the human body. It assists us in our singing, speaking and tasting. We can use our tongue for good or evil. We can use it to build up, or to tear down. We can use it to encourage or discourage.

Here is a question to ponder: Are you proud of the words you speak to people you meet on a daily basis? Your co-workers, residents, family members, etc.?

Note what James 3: 6-10 “The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity…it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison…out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.”

Benjamin Franklin said: “I will speak ill of no man, not even in the matter of truth, but rather excuse the faults I hear, and, upon proper occasions, speak all the good I know of everybody.”

May I share with you a verse of a poem: “Wise is the man who knows what not to say and remembers not to say it.”

I also came across this short poem :

If any little word of mine,

May make a life the brighter,

If any little song of mine

May make a heart the lighter,

God help me speak the little word,

And take my bit of singing,

And drop it in some lonely vale,

To set the echoes ringing.

To those who read these words, may I encourage you to:

Tell the good news

Often as you can

Now speak the words of love

Give graciously and cheerfully

Until God calls you home

Everlasting life will be yours.

God Bless You,
